51 Soya Bean (Golden Mile Food Centre) (2nd post)

The beancurd craze has spread out of Old Airport Road Food Centre. Recently, Lao Ban Soya Beancurd has opened a branch at Maxwell Food Centre. While 51 Soya Bean has also opened a branch, at Golden Mile food Centre.

I was at Golden Mile Food Centre eating recently when I chanced upon 51 Soya Bean. I am guessing that the stall was recently opened as there was no crowd. Was there at 1215pm on a weekday. I sat near the stall while waiting for my chicken rice.

51 Soya Bean's Price

Cold Soya Bean Drink $1.00

Since there was no queue, we ordered the Cold Soya Bean Drink. It is quite small, not enough to qench my thirst. But it was certainty very refreshing!

After finishing my meal, there was a short queue at the stall which was cleared within minutes.

Original Cold Beancurd $1.50

The Cold Beancurd is soft, silky, smooth with jelly-like appearance. Somehow, in terms of taste it was not even on par with its (51 Soya Bean) main branch. Certainty no melt in your mouth sensation. I guess my expectation was too high. An average beancurd, do try it if you have never try such a new kind of beancurd before.

Northern Thai Restaurant

The name can be misleading. Its not really a restaurant, there is no air con. Instead Northern Thai Restaurant is located in a coffeeshop.

Northern Thai Restaurant is located in this coffee shop.

Not too long a queue. Order your food, get the number and find a seat. Virtually everyone in this coffee shop are patronising the Northern Thai Restaurant. And the coffeeshop around 80% full during lunch time. Quite an achievement as I felt that it was ulu. Not like its 5minutes walk away from the MRT station.

Menu

Rice $0.50, Northern Thai Special Tom Yam Soup $4.50

Northern Thai Special Tom Yam Soup $4.50

This is quite a unique bowl of tom yam soup. It is cloudy and looks orangey. That reminds me, no chili oil was added. Yet, it was still spicy. There were hints  of basil, lemon grass and chili padi. I was researching online and realised it is likely that coconut milk was added.

Omelette $3.00

The Omelette was shiok too. It was fluffy and ingredients were well spread. The only down side was that beneath the omelette is a layer of oil. But well, for good food, its ok to be unhealthy. At least it was worth it.

Happy Chef Western Food

Happy Chef Western Food is located in Tai Hwa Eating House. Does the coffee shop name sounds familiar? Well its in the same coffee shop as Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle stall! If the queue at the Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle is too long, fear not, there is Happy Chef Western Food!

Not to be out done, Happy Chef Western Food has its fair share of publicity and interviews.

Chicken Schnitzel $6.00

Chicken Shnitzel comes with generous servings of vegetables, fries and a huge chunk of chicken that was well marinated. The chicken was not oily and was soft and tender. The vegetables was boil, another plus, who says you can’t try to be healthy eating western food.

This is another hidden gem in a coffee shop. I can’t wait to try the other items available. Who says you can’t find good quality western food at affordable price?
