Western Chow

I have ate at Western Chow at its Bishan outlet many times. The western food is real good and affordable.

Western Chow provides western food that is hainanese style yet halal. A fusion between western and hainanese, how unique! I have just come to know that the Bishan outlet and Bedok outlet has closed down due to staffing issues. Their current new outlet is located a Tampinese (Pls see the end of the post for full address). I am going to miss this western stall.

All pictures in this post are were from its bishan branch before it closed down.

Promotional Set Menu

Frankly, their Promotional Set Menu is not worth ordering. I ate it once and stopped ordering the set menu. The soup was diluted while the dessert was pathetic. Before, you think this is a post about lousy food, read on as their mains are amazing delicious!

Side Dish Menu

You get to choose 2 sides for any main course.

Chicken Chop Mushroom Sauce (Fries and Baby Carrots) $5.90

Ordered Chicken Chop Mushroom Sauce. I chose Fries and Baby Carrots for my sides. I ordered their whip potato (side) before and it was not to my liking. The chicken chop was soft, tender, juicy and well-marinated, which is a real gem as it is hard to find coffee shop food of this standard.  Of course, the mushroom sauce cannot be compared to places such as Jack’s Place. It was real good and complement to a already delicious chicken chop. The garlic bread was cold and soft, could have been toasted before serving. The Fries was on the salty end while the baby carrots was perfect; soft and the sweetness of the carrot still remains.

Char-Grilled Black Pepper Chicken (Fries and Baby Carrots) $5.90

I ordered the Char-Grilled Black Pepper Chicken on another occasion. Similarly, the sides I ordered was fries and baby carrot. The chicken was well grilled(look at the marks in the picture). Despite the grilling, the chicken was still soft, tender and juicy. Not dry and hard unlike other western stalls. Moreover, the charred bites and the back pepper sauce enhanced the taste. Yummilious! Again, the garlic bread was cold and soft, could have been toasted before serving. The Fries was on the salty end, they should really cut down the amount of salt used. The baby carrots was again perfect!

I have tried the Crispy Chicken Chop $5.90 before too and it is equally delicious! Their mains so far (what i tried) have not disappoint me at all. With improvements on their Garlic Bread and Fries, the meal would have been even more perfect!

I hope that once Western Chow has settled its staffing issues, it will open at Bishan again. They have closed all outlets and open a new one at Tampinese. Their new outlet address is below. Heard that their menu has changed sightly too. Hopefully food quality remains.

Skinny Pizza

Skinny Pizza (From Skinny Pizza's Facebook picture)

It is called Skinny Pizza because of its unique thin and crispy crust. We bought a deal.com voucher allowing us to pay $36 dollars for $5o worth of food. Its a 28% discount, not a lot. But it was worth it, as I have heard so much about it and want to try it for myself. Went to Skinny Pizza at Wheelock place.

Menu (Soup)

Sweet Corn Crab Soup $6.00

Sweet Corn Crab Soup was served with a piece of bread. Felt that it was too sweet.

Portobello Mushroom Soup $6.00

Portobello Mushroom Soup is creamy with a rich mushroom flavour. Moreover, it is full of fragrant mushroom bits.

Menu (Sides)

Truffles Fries $7.00

Fries with truffle oil. It arrived piping hot. With a hint of truffle with every single piece of fries, this is irresistible.

The English Breakfast Pizza $22.00

The English Breakfast Pizza consist of smoked bacon, a sunny side up egg, portobello mushroom, napoli tomato sauce and basil. The crust was very thin and crispy. The ingredients used were fresh. The basil added on to the flavour of the pizza. Certainty a pizza to try.

In addition, I must say that the service is very good. The staff are attentive. When your drinks come, the will open the can for you and pour the drink into a cup for you. When the cup is half empty, the staff will also pour the rest of the remaining drink in the can into your cup. Food wise, it was good, tasty and fresh food.

Burger Bench & Bar (2nd visit)

Second visit to Burger Bench & Bar to use our 2nd voucher from Beeconomic Groupon. The earlier post can be found here.

Burger Bench & Bar Menu

Burger Bench & Bar Menu, give a different feel compared to a paper based menu. Quite a lot of places use this concept for their menu too. They have a more detailed menu at the counter.

No preservation. No MSG. No processed meat. I am glad to know that Burger Bench & Bar is stating that their food contain none of it. Lets hope it is true. As in today’s world, there is a 99.9% chance that if you are eating out or buying any food from supermarket it is likely to be process or contains MSG and preservation. How else can the expiry date or shelf life be extended. Notice that food can last longer now? Well its because of these stuff. Are they healthy? Well, no… But we have no choice this is the effects of globalisation. Ironic..

Soft-Shell Chilli Crab Burger $8.20

Hmmm.. the burger bread contains no preservations? That is only possible if they do it themselves.. well I have no idea.

Soft-Shell Chilli Crab Burger was yummilicious. You get the real deal, soft-shell crab that was deep fried, not some paste. The chilli sauce was good, almost similar to the chilli sauce that can be found when you order chilli crab. Got abit messy as the sauce dripped down on my fingers. But well, its finger licking good, I do not mind, no wastage.

Omelette Cheese Beef Burger $8.00, add Fries $1.20

Omelette Cheese Beef Burger, deadly combination of egg, cheese and beef. Delicious, the beef was soft and juicy unlike those in fast food which is definitely harder and drier.

Fries was average and too salty for me, nothing fancyful. Wonders if its made from real potato or processed?

Home-Made Gourmet Dark Chocolate Ice Cream $3.00

The Home-Made Gourmet Dark Chocolate Ice Cream was fantastic. Smooth and thick, accompanied by a rich taste of chocolate.

Well, that is my last voucher. I hope Beeconomic will have another deal with Burger Bench & Bar soon. It is really worth it as using the voucher is like 50% discount for all the food we ate. So effective this meal costs $10.40 only. Without this voucher, I feel that its a tad too expensive as we were still hungry after the meal =)
