Lian Huat Heng Cantonese Roast Duck

Lian Huat Heng Cantonese Roast Duck is located at a corner of ‘Good Time Coffee Shop‘.Have always noticed that alot of patrons in the coffee shop always seems to order from Lian Huat Heng Cantonese Roast Duck. Hence, decided to give this stall a try on 2 occasions.

On both occasions, there was a short queue at the stall.

Roast Pork & Char Siew Rice

On the first occasion, I ordered the Roast Pork & Char Siew Rice. It does not look very presentable does it? Well do not let its appearance fool you. The rice grains were slightly hard, it help that sauce was added as it help soften the rice. The roast pork  was crispy and not too fatty. Delicious and fragrant. The char siew fared even better. Slightly charred parts providing a crispy and crackling layer at some parts. It was well marinated. Moreover, each piece was sliced such that it was not too thin. A bonus, each order comes with a bowl of soup! Why is it a bonus? Well, like any other roasted meat or chicken rice stall, free soup is given. But this free soup comes along with sichuan vegetable 四川菜 (zha cai) and even pork meat that is with soft bones/cartilage! The soup is salty, but well the ingredients inside was good!

Roasted Duck & Char Siew Rice

On the 2nd occasion, I ordered the Roasted Duck & Char Siew Rice. Similar comments for the rice and char siew as above. The roasted duck was disappointing.  Skin was not crispy. Although meat was tough and dry, it was flavourful.

Again, the soup comes along with sichuan vegetable 四川菜 (zha cai) and even pork meat that is with soft bones/cartilage! To me, I have always prefer pork meat that comes along with the soft bones/cartilage compare to those without.(wonder if I am lucky or all their pork comes with soft bones). A sides note, I have noticed that some people’s soup had duck wing or duck leg.

Overall, cheap and good. I am sure I will continue eating here and maybe one day I will be lucky and get the soup with duck leg =)

Indo Pura Muslim Food

Indo Pura Muslim Food is located in ‘Good Time Coffee Shop’.

This is the Indo Pura Muslim Food stall. Decided to order Ayam Penyet with a Begedil.

Ayam Penyet $4.00

Begedil $0.50

Lets start off with Ayam Penyet. The chicken was tender and soft. Normally, in Ayam Penyet, the chicken is smashed. In this case, it was not. Caution: the chilli is very very very spicy! Overall, the ayam penyet was decent, enjoyed the chicken!

Add a piece of begedil for $0.50. The begedil was so-so, to be frank it was not worth ordering.

Chicken Rice (Rochor Food Town)

No exact stall name. The chicken rice is located at Rochor Food Town. It about 5 to 10 minutes walk from Bugis MRT Station.  Located opposite Fu Lu Shou Complex.

Queue for Chicken Rice

There was constantly a queue of about 5 people, sometimes more. Not a achievement considering that there are lots of coffee shops and stalls all around within 2minutes away and there’s even Albert Food Centre 5 minutes away. What makes this place so unique such that there is constantly a queue?

Price List

Well, its pricing is how it differentiate itself from other stalls. Look at the menu. Chicken rice sold at $1.80. I have to rack my brain to think when did I encountered a chicken rice sold at such a price.

What I ordered. How come $2.60? Well because I added organs and also rice. still quite cheap yea?

Chicken Rice

I would say the chicken rice was not lousy. It was in fact slightly above the average range. Maybe because I did not have high expectations considering the price.

Lets start with the plus points first. I like the fact that so many pieces of organs were added. Normally elsewhere when you add organs, they just give you about 3 pieces. Also lots of pieces of chicken meat. The chicken meat was tender! Another plus point. As for rice, was not hard, was fragrant.. not to bad.

The flip side was well presentation of food haha. But come on, for such a price if you expect presentation of food, you must be insane! Well, so I would say the only negative side was lack of cucumbers. had only 1 piece hidden by the chicken.

As expected MSG was added. But bonus, had pieces of old cucumber (Lau Huang Gua) inside.

Overall, its a decent chicken rice. Worth a try.
