Albert Street Prawn Noodle (Old Airport Road Food Centre)

Went over to Old Airport Road Food Centre for lunch. There are many stores there and you will  be spoil for choice on what to eat.

Albert Street Prawn Noodle sell Big Prawn Noodles. I ordered the (small) Prawn Noodles. There was a queue, not too long. Around 10 minutes of wait.

Prawn Noodles (Soup) $4

I ordered the Prawn Noodles $4. When I saw that my colleagues ordered the $5 Big Prawn Noodles. I knew immediately I should have ordered that! Should have taken a picture of theirs. Never mind, I will be back for that one day!

On the spoon, there’s curry powder on it. As it has been around 2 months since I ate this, I can’t remember much about it such as if the prawn was fresh. But I remember the soup is shiok (delicious). The soup was tasty, full of fragrant from the prawns. A real prawn soup! You just want to continue drinking mouth after mouth of the soup. Besides prawns, there was noodles, beansprouts and pieces of lard. Overall, this is a stall to try!

Lao Fu Zi Fried Kway Teow 老夫子炒粿條

There are so many food stalls that serves good food at Old Airport Road Food Centre. Sometimes, you would be spoil for a choice on what to eat. Decided to try Lao Fu Zi Fried Kway Teow after walking around the food centre.

The lunchtime queue. waited for about 20 minutes. There was about 5 people in front of me. Some ordered more than 1 plate, hence the long wait.

The cost per plate.

3 man people team. The lady wearing green takes the orders, relay the orders to the lady in white at the left of the above picture, collects the money and prepare the plate with banana leaf. The guy in the background is the chef. Each plate of Kway Teow is fried separately. Even if you order 2 plates, no worries it is also fried separately. I am glad that he did not fried it together so as to serve more customers. Kudos to them for not taking the lazy way. Each plate is fried with lots of love care and effort! Imagine frying it non-stop!

This lady is the one who prepares the ingredients for each plate of Kway Teow so as to save the chef the hassle of wasting time preparing.

Fried Kway Teow $4

The kway teow is served on banana leaf. The kway teow was fried with black soya sauce and sweet sauce, hence the colour. It was quite well fried as each piece of noodle and kway teow was coated with the sauce. The cockles were just so-so. Overall, it was a delicious plate of kway teow. However, 2 things were lacking. Firstly, if they had used lard, it would have added the extra oomph. Secondly, more slices of chinese sausage could have been added to enhance the taste. Despite this, I will still recommend this stall, one of the better kway teow stalls around.

51 Soya Bean

51 Soya Bean is located at  Old Airport Road Food Centre. I went to try this as the Lao Ban Soya Beancurd 老伴豆花 was sold out. There was no queue at this stall.

51 Soya Bean sells Original Cold Beancurd, Cold Almond Beancurd, Cold (Soya) Bean Drink and even Durian Beancurd!

Original Cold Beancurd $1.50

Looks so plain and boring. Well appearances can be deceiving. Let me compare 51 Soya Bean with Lao Ban Soya Beancurd 老伴豆花.

– Price: Both $1.50 (Same)

– Appearance/texture: Both are soft, smooth, silky and looks like a jelly pudding (Same)

– Taste: Both are so soft and smooth that it slides down your throat. Lao Ban Soya Beancurd also provided melts in the mouth sensation and liquid seems to burst out in your mouth (Lao Ban  Soya Beancurd)

Conclusion: Lao Ban Soya Beancurd 老伴豆花 ‘s beancurd is the clear winner when compared to 51 Soya Bean. Overall, I would recommend 51 Soya Bean. For me I would go there if Lao Ban Soya Beancurd gets sold out. It really depends on individual preference. My post on Lao Ban Soya Beancurd can be found here.
