Bakerzin (Northpoint)

Bakerzin is well known for its cakes. Recently, there was a Groupon deal that would allow 50% savings when dining at Bakerzin. With this voucher, this is the best time to try its main course.

I think many people had the same idea (in purchasing the voucher and trying out the main course). Went to Bakerzin during Friday for dinner at Northpoint. Despite arriving at 630pm, it was packed and there was a queue. Four groups in front, luckily 2 groups in front got impatient and left the queue. In the end, we waited 25 minutes before we got a seat.

Filled to the brim.

We had a hard time deciding what to order.

Meal-Box Menu (a)

In the end, decided to order the Meal-Box set as it seems most value for money. Moreover, most people ordered the Meal-Box set. Or to put it simply, I was greedy. The Meal-Box comes with cold drink, bread, soup, salad/potato and even cake of the day!

Diners at Bakerzin can help themselves to free flow of Artisan Bread along with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. But the bread was too hard. Nothing fantastic.

Meal-Box Menu (b)

Bratwurst Linguini Meal-Box $21.90

I ordered the Bratwurst Linguini Meal-Box. As it was full house, I was informed that I had to wait around 20 minutes. When the order arrived, I was delighted by the amount of food. The bread was rock hard. Even harder than the free flow of bread they had. The soup was good! Tomato based soup with lots of other ingredients inside that I had no idea. But the angular container made it hard to scoop the remaining soup into the spoon. Potato salad was too dry. Despite both of us being crazy fans of potato, the fact that we were not ‘fighting’ to finish this speak volumes.

The main dish which was the Bratwurst Linguini added on to the disappointment. It was too dry. I did not finish it, not even half of it.. To add on to the disappointment, by the time our orders were served, the cake of the day was changed from Chocolate Etoile to New York Cheese Cake. I am not a fan of cheese cake nor am I a fan of the strawberry glaze on top.

Meal-Box Menu (c)

Carbonara Meal-Box $18.90

The difference between the Bratwurst Linguini Meal-Box and Carbonara Meal-Box was that instead of the potato it comes with green salad and of course, the main dish was different. Carbonara was dry and starchy. Towards the 3rd and 4th mouthful, you would have started feeling sick of eating it. Moreover, the bacon was very salty.

Overall, the food was disappointing. Bakerzin is better off doing what it does best in, serving cakes. By serving such lousy main course, it runs the risk of eroding its own brand image. Staff wise, it was clearly under staffed. Despite a long queue outside, there were several tables left uncleaned due to the lack of staff. But kudos to the staff as I notice they were always smiling. I will not be back anytime soon in as far as I am concern. The only time I will be back will be for the cakes, which I find over-priced.
*I heard that the warm chocolate cake is a must try. Any one has tried it   before?*

Mayim (North Point)

Went over to Mayim at Northpoint.

Has anyone tried the peanuts (left) before?

Here’s what was ordered.

Part of Drinks Menu

'Sou Mei' Tea with Wolfberry Fruits $1.00

Interesting cup that helps to filter out the tea leaves. If you are interested in getting one, I the shop name and address is in the first photo. However, I feel that for a lazy person like me, I will find it a hassle to keep removing the filter before drinking.

Sou Mei’ Tea with Wolfberry Fruits was fragrant and wolfberry provides lots of health benefits. You can request for the waiter/waitress to refill with hot water whenever you have finished drinking it.

Soup 'La Mian' topped with slices of classic marinated chicken $7.70

The Soup ‘La Mian’ topped with slices of classic marinated chicken as promised came with the la mian and chicken in the soup. The la mian is similar to the likes of crystal jade, however, it was slightly harder. The chicken was well marinated; fragrant and tender despite being soaked in the soup. Thought that the chicken was delicious!  Disappointingly, the soup base was a tad too salty. This dish would have been great and healthy if it was less salty and vegetables was added.

Spiced flavoured 'la mian' $6.70

The Spiced flavoured ‘la mian’ was topped with minced pork, peanut, seasame & preserved vegetable served in dry with special meat sauce. It was amazing delicious on the first few mouthfuls. However, towards the end, it got too spicy for us. If you have a good tolerance for spicy food, this is a good bet.

Overall, a decent place. During peak periods, be prepared to queue. Service was prompt and decent.

Share Tea 歇脚亭 (North Point)

Another new bubble tea player in Singapore. We already have Koi, Gong Cha, Happy Lemon. This time, we have Share Tea 歇脚亭 that sells bubble tea. Share Tea is from Taiwan and has over 90 outlets there. It has been in the bubble industry for 19 years. Its speciality is in natural fruit tea, freshly squeezed and frozen to -40 degrees!

Its first outlet opened in Wisma Atria (Orchard) followed by Parkway Parade and North Point (Yishun). More details on location at the end of the post. Also, they are opening branches in Bugis Juction, International Plaza and United Square soon! If you know the exact location do let me know.

at night

Sunday morning

Went to Share Tea at Northpoint on 2 occasions. The first picture was taken at night on a weekday. It shows the outlet filled with 6 staff and there was slight queue of about 4 persons. On the 2nd occasion (2nd picture), it was taken on Sunday morning at 1130am. Only 1 person manning the outlet with no queue. At Wisma, the queue is never ending. Yishun’s much better.

Staff gets 10% off

QQ Happy Family Milk Tea

As this is our first time buying from Share Tea, we had a hard time deciding what to drink. So many choices on its menu. We were undecided. Then we saw this ‘QQ Happy Family Milk Tea’. On its menu it wrote ‘Can’t decide? Try All-in-one!‘. Hence, this was what we ordered.

Sweetness Level (sorry for unclear picture)

You get to choose the sweetness level. Was told by the staff that 80% would be better as I chose 50%. But, we stuck with 50%.

As there was no queue, we got our drink in less than a minute.

QQ Happy Family Milk Tea $5 (Large)

The QQ Happy Family Milk Tea, was basically milk tea with grass jelly, pudding, pearl and red bean in it. The pearl was quite small and easy to suck up the straw. It was soft and spongy; quite a nice. The pudding and grass jelly were of course soft and taste similar to Gong Cha and Koi. The red bean somehow spoiled the experience as it was hard to suck it up the straw. As a result, most were left at the bottom of the cup. As for the taste of the Milk Tea? It did not really suit our taste bud as there was a weird after taste. And it was too sweet even at 50% sugar level. Will order other choices to try next time. Maybe their specialty. If you know what is nice, do let me know.
