Alex’s Eating House

To be honest, I have not heard of Alex’s Eating House. Until I ate at this place. Prior to doing a post on this Alex’s Eating House, I did a research on this place. Then did I know that, this place is famous. It is known for its char siew and sio bak(roasted pork) [some have mentioned that the char siew is the best in Singapore]. Well, enough say about track record or what is being said, here’s my post.

Alex’s Eating Place is located at Beach Road, opposite Shaw Towers. The eatery was packed during lunch time. Full house, every single table is occupied and there are other people waiting.

Roasted Duck, Char Siew, Roasted Pork (Sio Bak)

Having a big group, we managed to go to the back alley of the shop and got a table. Notice that most of the workers in this eatery are foreigners. It is real hard to grab the attention of one of them to take your order or to even ask for the bill.

Roasted Duck and Char Siew Rice

Ordered Roasted Duck and Char Siew Rice. It cost either $3.50 or $4.00. The Char Siew was not bad, however it was a bit too dry and as can be seen, each piece was way too thick. The Roasted Duck was had the same problem, each piece was ‘huge’. Moreover, there was little meat with lots of fat. Rice was hard. At the side of the plate there is cabbage which was so so. Really nothing fantastic. Well it was value for money. Oh, my friend ordered lotus soup, it cost just $1.50! cheap!

Anyway, at the back alley, it was very hot. Moreover, one of their worker was roasting pork (Yes! the whole pork ) outside. As a result, we went back to work smelling like we just went for a BBQ!

Will not be back anytime soon as the food is average. When I go back, this time I will try the sio bak. Also, taking note that they do their BBQ of pork outdoors, I can’t help but wonder if NEA approves of it and also how they ensure quality of food is consistent.

HauZhouDao Food Shop 好粥到火鍋館

*Closed*

HauZhouDao Food Shop 好粥到火鍋館 is a shop that specialises in steamboat buffet. The shop is located at Ang Mo Kio Central, at the Blk 712 where Sports Link is at. Have been here at least 10 times over the years.  This shop has been around since late 2005. Here’s a post on a recent visit, about 1month back when the weather was cold cooling. Went there on a Friday night, just after it rain earlier in the afternoon.

For Adult, the price is $15 Nett from Monday to Friday. During Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holiday, it is $16 Nett. No GST or Service Charge. The choice of soup are porridge, chicken and/or tomyam.

Outdoor

They have only a few tables indoor. Most of their sitting capacity is outdoor. Do not worry that it will be too hot after you start eating. This place is well ventilated and there are many fans at the ceiling and at the side of the wall. The only worry will be if it rains and there is a strong prevailing wind that blows the rain in. Or insects which are attracted to the warmth of the light after a heavy rain.

Chicken & Tomyam

Ordered the Chicken and Tomyam soup. Normally, we would order Chicken and Porridge. But this time decided to eat something spicy due to the cold weather. If you order just porridge, clay pot will be used instead so that the porridge will not be burnt.

Cooked food

Vegetables

Seafood

Meat

Ice Cream

Oh, the drinks are free flow too. Syrup drinks such as orange and lime. There is a wide variety of food available. After eating, you can go ahead and enjoy the ice creams. Everything here is self service and you can have as many servings as you want. But of course, take only if you can finish it.

One concern, I have is that the quality of the ingredients here might have deteriorated  (too strong a word) went down slightly. Particularly the mushroom, crabstick and corn. Other than that, I would say that the reasons why I keep coming back are because it is reasonably priced, good service, cozy environment. [the ingredients, the environment .. makes it feel as if I am eating at home =) ] I rate their service as good mainly because although they do not have service charge, they still provide service that would put outlets that charge service. They will keep refilling you soup base, assist you if you want the fan to be tilted to a certain direction, bring you more utensils when you require it. Basically, I think their mission is to make you feel at home and provide you with a world class service. Kudos for not charging service charge and provide such a good service.

Overall, I still find it value for money (cheap and good) and definitely will be back for more!

Indo Pura Muslim Food

Indo Pura Muslim Food is located in ‘Good Time Coffee Shop’.

This is the Indo Pura Muslim Food stall. Decided to order Ayam Penyet with a Begedil.

Ayam Penyet $4.00

Begedil $0.50

Lets start off with Ayam Penyet. The chicken was tender and soft. Normally, in Ayam Penyet, the chicken is smashed. In this case, it was not. Caution: the chilli is very very very spicy! Overall, the ayam penyet was decent, enjoyed the chicken!

Add a piece of begedil for $0.50. The begedil was so-so, to be frank it was not worth ordering.
