*Edited 11 Sept 2011* Lao Ban Soya Beancurd has opened a new branch at Maxwell Food Centre. Location and operation hours are stated at end of this post.

Lao Ban Soya Beancurd 老伴豆花 is a must try if you ever step into Old Airport Road Hawker Centre.

As I am writting this, I got to know of an article which was written by KF Seetoh about this stall. Click here for the link.

This was taken when I was there the first time during lunch time on a weekday. It was sold out, there was only almond favour left. (not a fan of almond) Instead, we went to try its competitor ‘51 Soya Bean‘. Will do a separate review at a much later time. The comparison is that Lao Ban Soya Beancurd is so much better/nicer.

On the 2nd visit, also during a weekday lunch time. My colleague went to queue for it. At least 15-20 minutes wait. I was told by my friend who went over during weekend that he queued 40minutes for this! If you notice carefully as you queue or eat in the hawker centre, some customers can buy 20 packets of this!

Their soya beancurd comes in original or almond flavour. The more popular favour is original which gets sold out first.

Beancurd (Original) $1.50

The beancurd looks so ordinary, plain. But well, looks can be deceiving! This beancurd is so soft, smooth, silky and looks like a jelly pudding. And unlike the normal beancurd (Tau Huay) that most Singaporeans are familiar with, this does not comes with sweet syrup. This beancurd practically melts in your mouth and liquid seems to burst out in your mouth. Moreover, it is just slide down your throat. At $1.50, this is a relatively cheap dessert!

Trust me, give this a try and you will not regret it.If it is sold out in the afternoon, there will be another batch out in the evening.

Warning: once you eat this, it will never be the same eating other type of beancurds.

  3. I saw the Seetoh’s article too! Seems like he prefers QQ soyabean one over the other 2. I’ve tried all 3, and I prefer QQ one also. Should go try! =)

  4. Hi Janelle

I have not tried QQ yet. Only 51 and Lao Ban. Will try it when I go down. Thanks!

  5. I tried the beancurd from another new stall call Bean flower water at old Airport rd and find out that the bean curd is comparable with Lao Ban. Maybe you can give it a try.

    • Hi Jason

another similar store? wow. The competition at Old Airport Road is fierce! They should just spread out to other locations. Got to try it one day!

      Thanks for the heads up

  6. it taste the same as 51 beancurd store. seriously i don’t understand why people waste time to q for it?

    • Hi Peasantman

I beg to differ. Lao Ban’s version practically melts in your mouth and liquid seems to burst out (spurt out) in your mouth. Whereas 51 version was lacking this. I have just tried 51 soya bean’s version at its new outlet in Golden Mile and I was disappointed. Seems to be in a different league compared to Lao Ban or even 51 Soya Bean’s original outlet.

But well, personal preferences =) The taste is subjective

      Cheers

  11. Hi, found a new shop name so-yea that sells chilled beancurd at downtown east! I tried their beancurd in a CUP matcha and cocoa flavor. Quite interesting , just slurp it with a straw and i think the beancurd is comparable with laoban.. you might want to give it a try!

  12. Hi

Thanks for the info. What a waste its too far from where I stay. But will certainty keep this in mind when I pass by. Slurping it with straw? I can imagine doing it for Lao Ban.

  13. Hi Julin! I tried #02-74; not for me unfortunately.
Prefer the one at #03-167, Dou Hua Zhuang. Very fresh. You should try.

  14. There is a newly opened Beancurd stall at Hong Lim Food Centre 2nd level name Simply Beanz, they have more choices than lao ban and taste equally great, esp the durian flavor. Really Shiok !! Worth giving a try.

  15. Yah i agreed with Mandy, Simply Beanz’s beancurd is worth trying, have been there a few times. Their Almond flavor is selling at only $1.50 whereas lao ban and 51 are selling at $2, they taste are equally gd.

  16. Hi Mandy, Eileen

thanks for letting everyone knows. Looks like these shops are popping up all over now. What other flavours are there?
I heard there is one at Maxwell that has different flavours such as chocolate, green tea and mocha.

    • Hi… Hv you got ur answer to your question?
I’m curious to know too as much as you.
      Does it really contain gelatine?
Cz I notice the texture of the bean curd after a while, it seems to become watery.

  19. Hi to all soya bean lovers. With this fierce battle going on, can anyone out there predict that it will die off or it will remain?

  20. Can anyone tell me , some say this tohui is make up of gelatine not suit for Vegetarian, need answer fast ..thanks

  21. Hi Richie

yes, the instant jelly powder contains gelatine. But I am not sure if this means that its vegetarian.

you can check here (http://foodiefc.blogspot.sg/2012/01/chilled-beancurd-recipe.html) for the ingredients.

  22. You might want to try Hong Kong iBean. Outlets at Bedok interchange, golden mile food centre and maxwell. The lady boss makes the beancurd really good.

  23. What’s up, yeah this paragraph is truly pleasant and I have learned lot of things from it on the topic of blogging. thanks.

    site

coincidence didn’t came about in advance! I bookmarked it.

  25. This is indeed an irony as to how our eyes get deluded. This would be true in the case of any tiered wedding
or birthday cake, and also when other items, such as fresh flowers, are
being added to the display. While working with these edible sheets make sure to complete doing
the printing job in advance and then store them in a zip-loc bag.

  26. We spent every morning in the sea they are really wreck.
Also make sure your paphos car hire holiday is a much better alternative to renting one, the cost of her car rental.
Taking a car on the wedding day, so even if you’ve purchased a home before, you should know the complete laws for purchase in the paphos car hire market. It has a pop up roof for sightseeing and enjoying their time. A boat ride around the loop takes 20 minutes, and I was shown a bill for 2, 225 1, 890.

  28. I am very happy to read this. This is the kind of manual that needs to be given and not
    the

accidental misinformation that is at the other blogs.
Appreciate your sharing this best doc.

your blog came up, it seems good. I’ve saved it in my google bookmarks.

  30. It’s really a great and useful part information.
I’m happy that you simply shared this useful info together with us. Please keep us up to date this way. Thanks for sharing.

  31. Definitely believe that which you said. Your favorite justification appeared to be on the
internet the simplest factor to be mindful of. I say
to you, I definitely get annoyed while people consider worries that they just don’t know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and outlined out the whole thing without having side effect , people can take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thank you

  32. Hello There. I found your blog the use of msn. This is
an extremely neatly written article. I’ll make sure to bookmark it and return to read extra of your helpful info. Thank you for the post. I will certainly comeback.

  33. Salik is an Arabic word which means clear/open and it refers to the wine that was
produced at the time of the proposal. Variety one, look around,
and yes, famous celebrities such celebrities such as King Fahd
of Saudi Arabia, visit this area every year. The discussion largely centred around paphos car
hire and what it takes to be safe besides ensuring
    your travel spirit is intact.

  34. WONDERFUL Post.thanks for share..extra wait .. …

  35. Hello just wanted to give you a quick heads up and let you know a few of the images aren’t loading properly.
I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different browsers and both show the same results.

  36. Hello! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this website?
I’m getting fed up of WordPress because I’ve had problems with hackers and I’m looking at options
for another platform. I would be awesome if you could point me in the
    direction of a good platform.

  37. Hi there, i read your blog from time to time and i own
a similar one and i was just

wondering if you get a lot of spam responses? If so how do you reduce it, any plugin or anything you can
advise? I get so much lately it’s driving me

insane so any assistance is very much appreciated.

  38. Thanks for this glorious article. One other thing is that
most digital cameras arrive equipped with any zoom lens that permits more or less of your scene to generally be included simply
by ‘zooming’ in and out. These changes in the aim length will be reflected
from the viewfinder and on significant display screen on the back of
    the very camera.

  39. First of all I want to say fantastic blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you
do not mind. I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your
head prior to writing. I have had a difficult time clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts out.
I do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost
simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or hints?
    Cheers!

  40. Hi there to all, how is all, I think every one is getting more
from this web page, and your views are good in favor of new users.

  41. This web site definitely has all of the information I needed about this subject and didn’t know who to ask.

  42. You should check out my site, I tried doing some kind of search engine optimisation but
this didn’t have the effect I thought
p.s Don’t take advice from the Warrior Forums haha

  43. I was disappointed on CCK outlet. I bought 2 bowls of soya bean curds and 1 soya bean drink . I gave $10 to the cashier , she supposed to return me change of $5.50 as each cost $1.50 only. But she returned me $4.50. I returned back to the shop and told the cashier that the change was incorrect but they insisted that they returned me the correct change.

  44. Is there a benefit in hiring someone to do the link
exchanges, or would you do it yourself?
I will definitely be coming back, its a great blog

  45. I have so much difficulty when trying to find useful blogs,
it seems everybody run them to make a profit
